Day twelve (thursday June - 7)

Thursday:

Our original plan was to go to the Cliffs of Moher then head to Kilkee. That didn't happen. We slept in! LOL! We had been going and going so much each day, so we decided to rest for the morning. We did head out to the Cliffs of Moher around 1pm. Of course, we had to have lunch, so that took up an hour or so. We ate in a cute Bistro in Ennis.

Riley was my navigator and he told me to go on the N18. Then fell asleep. I stayed on N18 and never saw any signs for the counties near the Cliffs. I finally woke him up and asked when we should be seeing some signage since we were already in Galway. He realized that we were going a little out of the ways and we had to take a detour but not a complete turnaround. So our 1.5 hour trip turned into 3 hours and we finally got to the Cliffs around 5pm. Just a side note - the sun does not set until around 11pm and the sunrise is about 5am! So there is a lot of daylight here. Since most attractions close at dusk, we had plently of time to explore. Of course, all the other shops close at 5pm in the cities which is rather annoying.

Back to the Cliffs - We headed up one part of the mountain then saw ruins on the other side and went over to that area. There was an old tower for defensive purposes from the 14th-15th century. Of course, by now, we have realized that there are ruins everywhere! Almost every cow pasture has some type of ruins sitting in the middle of it.

While sitting in front of the tower, we struck up a conversation with a couple from Poland. The husband's english was better than his wifes so he talked more. I think he probably talks more in that relationship anyways! LOL! He told us about their vacation and how many vacation days they get from work. Everyone starts off with 4 weeks! His wife gets 36 days per year! Geez! So they take a lot of 3-4 day vacations all over Eurupe. They were able to fly roundtrip to Shannon for only 100USD each person.

We are going to look into the possiblty of flying into Poland in order to get those cheap flights to other places in Europe. They used a airlines called Ryanair for these cheap flights.

They invited us to their country and encouraged us to go to more Europe places. We had already thought about going to Italy next year. We exchanged email address's so maybe we will have a place to stay if we go to Poland! LOL!

So we left the Cliffs about 8pm and headed back to the hotel. It only took about an hour to get there so it was not so bad.
